8 blogs to add to your RSS

Reading, discovering, and interacting with other blogs is a big part of my daily routine, so I’m always trying to find resources that produce informative, preferably entertaining, and easily palatable content.  Before getting started, check out our Guide to Google Reader and How to Use it Effectively.  Getting your web-based content organized with RSS and into a format you can use easily is a must if you’re going to follow a decent number of resources.  I recommend google reader list view for quick scanning:

Once you’re happy with your set-up, I recommend these 8 current favorites from my constantly evolving list, broken down into Daily Brainfood, and Marketing and Analysis:

Daily Brainfood

Big Think – This site features articles and videos from experts in an incredible range of fields, from comedy to health to politics.  The videos are short and incredibly engaging.

The Quantified Self – A wonderfully data-nerdy site focusing on people using experiments and analysis to improve their everyday lives.  Does coffee actually make you more productive?  Find out.

The Happiness Project – A constant flow of little tips and tricks to help improve your daily life.  They’re quick, interesting, and practical.

Freakonomics – Based off of the New York times bestseller, the blog focuses on answering the “whys” of everyday life through an economic lens.

Marketing and Analysis

SEOMoz – A great resource for search engine optimization that is communicated well and easily understandable.

Junk Charts – Really helpful material on how to get the most out of visualizations.  They use tons of examples to display what’s right and wrong with charts, making the lessons stick.

Hubspot – A one-stop shop for everything inbound marketing.  Their content ranges from big-picture web trends to how-to’s for specific tools.

Outspoken Media – My favorite resource for online reputation management and brand strategy.  They produce a ton of content that’s entertaining, relatable, and informative.

I hope this list can add to your browsing routine.  Feel free to add your favorites.

  1. A couple of my favorite blogs:

HRmarketer – http://hrmarketer.blogspot.com/ – blog dedicated to the human resource marketplace with tons of research for job seekers, employers and, of course, HR marketers.

Big Marketing Ideas – http://blog.MarketingHasEvolved.com – Things change. Businesses innovate. Marketing evolves. This blog offers research, strategic and tactical marketing advise and more than a few good “big ideas.”

  2. Great List! There are a few gems on here that I hadn’t found. Two others that I like for marketing/general thinking are:

    Seth’s Blog: http://sethgodin.typepad.com/

    and

    Synthesis: http://interacc.typepad.com/

  3. Jeff – Glad you like the list. I hope you find some valuable things on it. I’m looking forward to checking out the synthesis blog, though I’ve actually been on, and subsequently jumped off the Godin bandwagon. He was one of the first resources when I began in the industry, and I found him a bit too “guru-ish”. He’s clearly a key figure in the industry and has done great things, but the blog just didn’t do it for me. I’m more of a Chris Brogan fan, but I may give Seth another shot. Thanks for the suggestions.

  4. Justin – Blog looks great. I’m looking forward to checking it out. Do you have an RSS feed, or only the email subscription?
